After eleven years living, dancing, teaching tango, and writing in Buenos Aires, I came home to L.A. in 2014, where I'm reconstructing my life.

The Paper Chase From Hell Continues

What can I say? More lines, more fees, and I still need more papers!

I couldn't believe it--I have a collection of lists that different people in Inmigracion have given me over the 4 years I've been trying to get my long-term visa, and "today's" required paper wasn't on any of them. Plus they weren't interested in some of the other documents that I had been told were necessary.

I was seeing stars at this point. Maybe God is trying to tell me something.

And why does it bother me that all of the people in charge of my future are under 25?

Apparently Dante had no experience with Argentine bureaucrats or he would have designated a special circle of hell just for them. I am thinking a well-placed 100 pesos note would have expedited things.

Whenever anyone suggests I move to BsAs, I laugh and say, "No, I would be in jail within a month for going postal in some governmental run around." Only by clutching my heart and muttering about feeling ill was I able to bypass some officious snot in a Correo Argentino and get a package sent. Sometimes it pays to be old.

Cherie, Maybe you need a lawyer? Or someone who know the tricks? What the hell (bloody hell, as Sally would say!)

Ghah! How frustrating. I'm sorry that this is such a PITA. I think that these are both good suggestions and personally, we are having an immigration lawyer walk through everything for us, Jorge Monferini and tell him that you got his name from me (he's out of the office until next week).t
